How memnory plays one falsley in old age. I was not writinig in The Forum until 2003 - 2004, which, thanks to Ian sending me archival copies of The Forum, enabled me to straighten out my thinking
Apologies to Pat Bryan, I should have remembered that he is the Dean of Farnol par excellence. Where I got my other ideas from I will never know
But Pat, you said that you were at Biggin Hill and Dishforth but never in Fighter Command. I thought Biggin Hill was a fighter base. In another letter you mentioned "I did not realize that they actually had to demolish a Hunsdon pub in 1941 to lengthen a runway" By that phraseology I would assume you were familiar with the situation in Hunsdon. Actually they had to take down a second Pub - The Turkey Cock-
after the base became operational although it was probably at least 100 yards out of the line of the runway. Was it while you were at Dishforth you became acquainted with the Yorkshire saying you quoted to me back in 2004 - Eat all, drink all, pay nowt, hear all ,see all,say nowt, an if that does owt for nowt, do it for thissen.
I see now that you are a resident of Port Hope, Canada. We used to live near Brampton, just west of Toronto before coming down to the States and now live in Park Rapids, Minnesota.
