Hilly - I'm sure you'll get plenty of differing comments. Farnol's first runaway best-seller, and the foundation of his popularity comes to mind - The Broad Highway. My own personal preference would be The Amateur Gentleman, which I think a better written story. Others might suggest his pirate tales Black Bartlemey's Treasure amd Martin Conisby's Vengeance as being what first attracted them to Farnol
