Gadzooks, Pat, now you've really put the steamer under the least attractive section of my anatomy! But you're right: I'm just about ready to climb out of my rathole-- thanks to the love and hard work of my two daughters, both of whom detest my 'grand obsession' with a passion!

Yesterday Sakura (that's daughter # One for those not aquainted with the Christmas Clan) shepherded me through the last phases of the self-publishing process. Mari (that's daughter # Two) had drawn an original cover but had put it into 72 pixels per inch and Sakura had to pump that up to a whopping 300. Sakura then had to get the "bleed" right, redo the map on the inside, brighten the letters to the cover, double column the back, and so on. Of course I didn't understand anything she was doing but stayed with her nonetheless in the vain hope that some of her smarts would rub off. No such luck. Anyway, we submitted the manscript at midnight EPT (Edgar Allan Poe Time). For those into numbers the final page count was 628.

The book will never be read. It is just too weird, even by my bizarre standards. Who in the world would be interested in the intimate lives of sixty-six North American writers? Still I was amazed that of the forty odd publishing houses, estates, and literary agencies that I approached for copyright quotes only a handful turned me down. Some were even downright helpful and gracious!

Anyway, "the opus" is still something I can slide under the noses of my bosses at work. Good grief, what a self-righteouseous group of retarded flunkies I smile and sweat for! Perhaps that's why I identify with Martin Conisby so much.

As ever,
The Yuletide Kid
