As at least four of us know, the first (and only) "annual" meeting of the JFAS took place some five years ago in Eastbourne. With Pat Bryan coming to visit these shores later this year, I wonder if it is not time for a second annual meeting. Obviously the venue would need to be near a site of Farnolian interest, and what better than one within walking distance of Dorville Road (where JF lived from c1888-1910, with a gap while in America), Eltham Road (1911-1919), Leyland Road (where he attended Derwent prep school) and the two Tiger's Head inns, as featured, or at least mentioned, in Peregrine's Progress. Never mind that the houses and school have been pulled down and one of the Tiger's heads has been closed, the air is still that which He breathed. Yes, I am putting in a bid for Blackheath. Two of those who attended the Eastbourne meeting (Pat and Stuart) will be there between October 1 and 5, and the other two (Sam and Julia) would be more than welcome to join us, as would any other Farnolite who would like to join in the fun. I know it is mid-week, but blame Pat for that. I suggested elsewhere the availability of an infinite number of beds, but that is not strictly true, so book early to avoid disappointment - or be prepared either to B&B nearby or just come for the day.
This is just an opening shot - I have not even mentioned it to Pat yet. Details of date, time, programme and suchlike can be worked out if/when interest is expressed. Wojjer fink abaht it, you lot?
